Planting Your Garden? How about some “wild animal insurance” This time of year people all over the country start looking forward to this year’s garden. But gardeners are not the only ones excited about seeing new sprouts in fresh soil. The wild critters are excited too! Newly sprouting seedlings are like an all-you-can-eat salad bar to deer, rabbits and other animals after a long cold winter. Some critters like mice, moles and voles don’t even wait for the seedlings…they chow down on the seeds like they were party snacks! So, what is a gardener to do? Pull out the PredatorPee and send the wild animals packing. According to Ken Johnson of PredatorPee.com, “PredatorPee is like wild animal insurance for your garden. The one thing that the animals grazing in your gardens fear most is their natural predator, like the coyote, the wolf, the fox, the bobcat or the Mt. Lion. PredatorPee is real coyote urine, fox urine, bobcat urine, wolf urine and Mt. lion urine. It duplicates the marking scent left by these predators in the wild. Prey like deer, rabbits, moles etc. immediately recognize this scent and will leave the marked area as quickly as possible.” Many gardeners look to pesticidal repellents to protect their gardens, but Johnson warns that careful consideration should be taken before using these powerful pesticides. “PredatorPee is as all natural as a product can get. It is not a pesticidal repellent, it is simple “pee” that occurs in the wild every day. When you choose to use a pesticide type repellent, you are adding something to the soil that has never been there before. Think about that carefully before you do it.” Even fences are not enough says Johnson. “Did you know that a deer can jump a 6 foot fence from a standing start? But, to do it they have to be very close to the fence. If you hang some coyote urine-filled dispensers every ten feet or so on the fence, deer will never get close enough to the fence for a jump.” Johnson also suggests mixing some bobcat urine in the soil around your plantings, it adds some urea and will also deter the moles and voles from eating your seeds. Wolf Urine - Natural solution to coyote problem
In cities and suburbs across America, the coyote has taken up residence in a new habitat where food is plentiful and the living is easy. According to Stanley Gehrt, an assistant professor of environmental and natural resources at Ohio State University, “This animal's amazing ability to thrive in metropolitan areas has greatly surprised scientists” Gehrt is in the sixth year of a multi-year study of coyote behavior in urban Chicago. But the problem is not limited to Chicago, coyotes are becoming a major nuisance in cities and towns across America. "As cities expand and homes, shopping centers and office buildings go up in areas where coyotes have previously lived or hunted, the two environments will sometimes conflict," said Jeff Ripley, director of Texas Cooperative Extension in Travis County. One unique solution to this problem is the use of wolf urine as a deterrent. According to Ken Johnson of Maine-based Lexington Outdoors, wolves are one of the coyotes few natural predators and they instinctively seek to avoid areas where they believe wolves are present. Lexington Outdoors sells wolf urine which is used to mark an area with the distinctive scent of wolves. According to Johnson, “in the wild, the scent of urine is the primary way animals communicate. That is how they find a prey, find a mate and how they keep form becoming prey themselves.” Mark Twain called coyotes "the most friendless of God's creatures", but these animals are incredibly adaptable. Coyotes have found that there is abundant food wherever humans are present, so urban and suburban areas have proven to be a very hospitable environment in which to settle. That is why the idea of using the natural wild flight instinct triggered by the scent of the coyote’s natural predator is so intriguing. Could it be possible that the solution to the coyote problem is not in chemicals or high-tech devices, but rather in nature itself? Lexington Outdoors seems to think so and Johnson says they sell a lot of wolf pee to people in California, Nevada and other problem coyote areas that seem to agree as well. Pest Control companies take a walk on the wild side
In the pest control world, the trend is to move away from the use of toxic chemicals whenever possible. The problem of course is finding a natural product that is as effective as its chemical counterpart. One such product is PredatorPee from Lexington Outdoors, Inc. in Maine. The product is marketed primarily as territorial marking scent for pet housebreaking and training, but in many parts of the country, pest control companies have found it particularly effective as a deterrent for many types of wild animals. In the animal kingdom urine is the great communicator. It not only warns of danger, but also communicates dominance and territorial boundaries to members of like species. It is this characteristic of predator urine that makes it a great tool in controlling wild animal pests. PredatorPee comes in 5 varieties and each different urine can be matched to a specific prey. For example, if protection from fall mice migration into buildings is the goal, then bobcat urine would be applied around the perimeter of the building. Bobcats prey on mice and mice know instinctively that the scent of bobcat urine spells immediate danger and stimulates immediate flight. The same holds true for mitigating shrub damage by deer. Coyote urine in small dispensers hung on shrubs sends a clear message to deer, the coyotes favorite prey, that there is trouble nearby. Match the urine to the problem prey and you have the solution. There is a handy predator/prey chart on the company’s website. For more information visit www.predatorpee.com or call Lexington Outdoors in Maine at 207-794-8232 for a solution that works just the way nature does. Mice moving in? Urine luck!

As the temperatures cool each fall in many parts of the U.S. and Canada, houce mice and field mice begin moving into homes, barns and commercial buildings in search of warmth and food. How to stop them? According to Ken Johnson of Predatorpee.com Marketing Manager Ken Johnson, mother nature has given us the solution.
